8/23 For those of you who could join us on the coast for the August event at Bodega Bay we thank you for coming out. The golf course was a tough one but we had pretty nice weather for the event and the views could not be beat. The RESULTS page and the POINTS RACE page have been updated so you can check them out. The latest tip from Jeff regarding which golf ball to use can be found on the TIPS/LINKS page. Next up on the calendar is the Western States in Reno. Hope to see you all there! The entry for the Club Championship at Stevinson Ranch in October will be out shortly so stay tuned....
7/15 Who could ask for anything better than Poppy Hills Golf Course? How about Poppy Hills Golf Course with absolutely spectacular weather! That is what we had at the 2 person best ball event on Wednesday July 14th. The course was in great shape as always, the weather could not be beat and everyone had a great time. Mark this one up as another successful event for the 2010 season. The RESULTS page will be updated over the next few days as well as the POINTS RACE page so you can check them out. The entry form for our August tournament at Bodega Bay has been updated on the website so click on the NEXT TOURNAMENT ENTRY if you need a copy. This event is a 4 person event so grab some buddies and drop the entry in the mail before the deadline.
6/23 Another successful event for 2010 but this time it was held at Eagle Vines. This event was a combined CHICAGO tournament with the Norcal Lefties and Sonoma Valley Golf Club. With over 100 players it was quite an event. Great weather, great layout and great times were had by all. The RESULTS page been updated with the event results as well as the POINTS RACE page with those updated standings so make sure to check them out.. The entries for Poppy Hills have been closed at this point. Hope you were able to get your entry in to the chairman in time as Poppy Hills is always a pleasure to play. The entry form for our August tournament at Bodega Bay will be out shortly so keep an eye out.

6/14 On behalf of the Norcal Lefties I am sad to announce that Fred Oehler has passed away. Fred has been with the Norcal Lefties for the last 35+ years and will be deeply missed. Hopefully you had a chance to play a round or two with him during his time with the organization as it was always a treat. There will be a memorial service held for Fred at Boundary Oaks Golf Course, 3800 Valley Vista Road, Walnut Creek, CA 94598 on Wednesday June 23, 2010 from 1:00pm-3:00pm. Maivis and the rest of their family is in our thoughts and prayers. In honor of Fred playing his last event with the Lefties at the Match Play event in May, we would like to name the tournament going forward as the Oehler Cup. |
5/28 The 2010 Lefty Team Match Play was a huge success!! Thanks to everyone for participating and we hope you can join us for the good times at next years event . The match results and totals have been posted on the RESULTS page so make sure to take a look. Also updated is the POINTS RACE page and everyone who participated in the match play event received 4 points and the winning team got an additional 4 points. Don't forget to drop that entry in the mail for the June and July upcoming events as both deadlines are only a couple of weeks away. Also out now is the 53rd Annual Western States tournament info and entry. You can get the entry by clicking on the WESTERN STATES ENTRY button on the navigation bar. You should be receiving an email or your entry in the mail over the next week.
5/18 The entries are out for our June and July tournaments as the deadlines for each are about the same time. We hope you can join us for our June event at Eagle Vines in Napa which is a lefty/guest format but it is also a joint event with Sonoma Valley Golf Club so check out the entry for details. The July event takes us down to the Monterey area for a round at Poppy Hills which is a better ball event for lefty/guests. Check out the navigation bar which has opposite colored buttons to get the entry for each of those events. Also the TIPS/LINKS page has been updated with our latest tip from Jeff which has to do with long bunker shots. Make sure to check out the bottom of the SCHEDULE page as many of the events outside of Norcal have been updated. The entry and information letter for the 53rd Annual Western States Lefty/Righty Team Championship should be out very shortly so make sure to check back for info. This weekend is the 2010 Lefty Team Match Play event at Lincoln Hills Golf Club so stay tuned for results from that tournament which should be a great time!
4/27 Our second event of 2010 at Stone Tree was a big success! Thanks to all who participated. The course was in great shape considering how much rain we received just days and hours before the event. Sorry for the delay in getting the results posted on the website. The results from the Stone Tree Tournament have now been updated on the RESULTS page as well as the POINTS RACE page so make sure to check out how you did. The winners should have received their checks via mail by now. Also if you are intending to play in the Lefty Only Team Match Play event the entries close in a few days so make sure to get the entry in.
4/2 The entries have been closed for the Stonetree tournament and everyone is looking forward to a great event. Check back on the website after the event for the latest in Points Race standings and all of the other results. The TIPS/LINKS page has been updated with Jeff's latest tip about when to pull the flag when you are close to the green so check it out. Just posted as the next event is the LEFTY ONLY 2 day team match play event up at LIncoln Hills in the Sacramento area. If you are interested in Ryder Cup style match play(as we know everyone is) make sure to check it out and get your entry in. There are a limited number of playing spots so don't wait too long and miss out on this one!
3/16 Thanks to everyone who participated in the season opening event out at Deer Ridge in Brentwood. The weather was fantastic and the course was in great shape so it was the perfect way to start off the 2010 lefty golf season! The Deer Ridge Tournament results have now been updated on the RESULTS page as well as the POINTS RACE page so make sure to check out how you faired. The winners from 1st, 2nd or 3rd in each flight as well as skins or deuces will have checks in the mail over the next few days if you left before they were distributed.
3/7 The Stonetree Tournament entry has now been posted. Also updated is our TIPS/LINKS page with the March tip from Jeff on hitting the ball straighter. Feel free to drop Jeff an email or give him a call if you need a quick fix on your play. Make sure to watch the Lefty Points race page following our Deer Ridge tournament to see how how you did. Also added to the schedule page is the entry form for the 17th annual Southwest Shootout Tournament.
1/26 The Norcal Lefties would like to send our condolences to the Stathes family. Ed Stathes passed away in mid December after battling many of the recent years with health issues. Ed first played in the Lefties in the mid 1960's and has been a long time supporter of the organization and lefty golf in general. He will be greatly missed. Also updated is our TIPS/LINKS page with a new tip from Jeff for February regarding putting. There have been a few suggestions from the membership to modify the Lefty Points Race so it rewards participation more and so the new rules regarding these changes will be sent out with our first tournament entry in a week or so. We hope everyone will enjoy the updated format. These rules will also be available on the website under the POINTS RACE page. Also coming shortly will be your membership cards and information on the upcoming season.
12/8 Each of you should have received your renewal paperwork via snail mail at this point. Please return that prior to the December 24th deadline so we can get them into the NCGA. The 2010 NCGA Associate Club Tournament information has been updated below. The TIPS/LINKS page has been updated with information about the new lefty pga pro Jeff DeBenedetti who will be supporting the association starting in 2010. Finally the 2010 Lefty Association schedule has been updated on the SCHEDULE page.
We have received a number of inquires regarding the confirmation of tournament entries. The policy is all entries are accepted unless a member is notified by the Tournament Chairman that their entry has not been accepted or they have been put on the standby list. For tournaments having sequential tee times, the member will receive a postcard or an e-mail message with their starting time a week or so before the tournament. It is the member’s responsibility to notify their playing partner(s). The starting time for shotgun starts will be included with the entry and no further notification will be given.
