2/2 The entry for the first tournament of 2012 at Fountaingrove Golf Club has now been posted on the website. You can grab it from the navigation panel or under the SCHEDULE page. Also updated is the Southwest Shootout entry on the lower portion of the SCHEDULE page. Hope you all can join us for some great events this year.
1/19 The NCGA Associate Club tournament dates and qualifiers have been updated on the LATEST NEWS page(this one). Just scroll down to the colored table below. If you forgot to send in your Lefty Club dues there is an additional $10 reinstatement fee issued by the NCGA to get your GHIN activated now. Our first event of 2012 will be at Fountaingrove Golf Course on Monday March 12. It will be a lefty/guests 4 person team event. Details and entry will be available in the coming weeks.
12/9 This week we held our final event of 2011 at Las Positas Golf Course in Livermore. It was the Lefty Points Race Championship for the top 20 players who earned points during the 2011 schedule. Thanks to all who participated and we hope you had a good time. We could not of had better weather in December if we would have ordered it! The golf course is going through some major renovations which will be ready in the spring of 2012 but the greens were rolling great. The RESULTS page has been updated so check it out. If you have winnings coming it will be on its way via postal mail shortly. Make sure to get that renewal paperwork in for the Club prior to the Dec 25 deadline or there will be an additonal $10 reinstatement fee added on by the NCGA to get your GHIN reactivated. The SCHEDULE page has been updated with the list of Association venues for 2012 but details will be added in the coming weeks. 11/11 We had our November Turkey Shoot at Presidio Golf Course on Tuesday this week.The weather was great for a November day in San Francisco and we wanted to thank everyone that came out for the event. The RESULTS and POINTS RACE pages have been updated from the event. The SCHEDULE page has been updated for the Points Race Championship entry at Las Positas in December.
10/10 This weekend was the Norcal Lefty Club Championship which was held at Sevillano Links in Corning, California. Thanks to all who came out and participated and to Jim Chisum and Ron Griffin for making all of the arrangements. If you were unable to attend this year, put it on your calendar for next year as we will be returning to enjoy this venue for another event. The course was in great shape and a good test of golf. Congrats to Tony Potter and Ed Welch for becoming the Low Gross and Low Net Champions, respectively. The RESULTS and POINTS RACE pages have been updated with the information from the tournament. Also updated is the CLUB CHAMPIONS page and the updated pictures on it. Now up on the website is our last lefty/righty event of the year so make sure to grab some buddies and get your entry in to Rick Rodriguez for the Presidio event on November 8. This will be the last event for lefties to earn points in the Lefty Points Race to qualify for the December Championship and a shot at the points race pot. Also updated on the SCHEDULE page is an information letter for the upcoming James Cup Challenge in Palm Springs in February. Please contact Wally Coffman for further information on that event. 9/10 The 54th Western States was held this week in the Carson Valley / Tahoe area. A HUGE congrats to the father-son team of Jim Kerns and Mike Kerns for winning the field low gross and to Tom Martin and Eddie McCarthy for winning the field low net. We could not have asked for more perfect weather! The golf courses were in great shape and once again the event was a big success. A big THANK YOU to all who participated as this event as it can not happen without people like you. There is a red Western States Results button on the home page that will bring up the results in pdf file if you are interested in printing it all out. Otherwise the results have been posted on the RESULTS and POINT RACE pages as well in our normal fashion. Also posted on the navigation page is the Club Championship event at Sevillano Links Golf Course in conjunction with Rolling Hills Casino in Corning. We hope to see all of you there for another great event.
8/13 Thanks to those that came out for the Diablo Grande tourney this week. The results have been posted on the RESULTS and POINT RACE pages. The deadline for the Western States tournament is August 15th and we still have some spots available so if you are interested please contact Vic Frediani.
7/23 The results for the Oregon Lefty Tournament which was played at the OGA course in Woodburn have been posted on the RESULTS page. Thanks to all of the Norcal Lefties that went up to participate in the event. The course was in spectacular shape and quite a fun track to play. We did get "some" rain during the second day of play. Currently it appears the same course will be used for next years event so we hope you can make an effort to support our lefty friends to the north!
7/11 Results from last weeks 2 person better ball at Coyote Creek Golf Course has been updated on the RESULTS and POINT RACE pages. Reminders that the Diablo Grande and Western States entry deadlines are going to sneak up on you so make sure to send in the entry asap. Also the 4 players representing the Norcal Lefties in the NCGA Associate Club (best 2 balls of 4) Tournament have made the cut for the local qualifier and will try to make the cut for the sectional qualifier on Tuesday July 19 at Poppy Ridge. This weekend is the Oregon Lefties Annual Tournament and there are quite a few Norcal people playing so good luck and safe travels to all making the trek up to Woodburn.

12/3/2010 On behalf of Lefties everywhere I am sad to announce that Dave McCall has passed away. Dave was the host of the Southwest Shootout in NM for the last 17 years and always supported the Norcal Lefties with his participation in the Western States Tournament. He was the kind of person that left an impression on everyone that he met. This is the obituary that we received from Dino McCall his son. Dave McCall, 76, a resident of Espanola, NM since 1969, passed away on November 26, 2010 after a short illness. He was bron on March 17, 1934 in Cynthiana, KY. He moved to Ruidoso, NM in 1959 where he met his wife Virginia Sanchez. He worked for the telephone company transferrring to Espanola in 1969 and later became a general/electrical contractor where he remained until his passing. Dave was an avid fisherman and also a very passionate left-handed golfer. Dave was preceded in death by his wife Virginia on June 26, 2008. He is survived by his sisters Gwen Rainey and Anna Frances Williams of Kentucky. Five children Jackie Thomas and Cindy Vice of Kentucky, Dino McCall of Espanola, Gina Contreras of California, and Ronnie McCall of Alburquerque, He is also survived by 11 grandchildren and 7 great-grandchildren. Cremation has taken place. The memorial service celebrating his life will be Saturday December 4, 2010 at 10am at the El Buen Pastor 609 Calle Rivera in Espanola, NM. In lieu of flowers please make donations to Northern California Left Handed Golfers Association(www.leftygolf.org - jim_dalton@sbcglobal.net). He will be greatly missed by many. |

6/14/2010 On behalf of the Norcal Lefties I am sad to announce that Fred Oehler has passed away. Fred has been with the Norcal Lefties for the last 35+ years and will be deeply missed. Hopefully you had a chance to play a round or two with him during his time with the organization as it was always a treat. There will be a memorial service held for Fred at Boundary Oaks Golf Course, 3800 Valley Vista Road, Walnut Creek, CA 94598 on Wednesday June 23, 2010 from 1:00pm-3:00pm. Maivis and the rest of their family is in our thoughts and prayers. In honor of Fred playing his last event with the Lefties at the Match Play event in May, we would like to name the tournament going forward as the Oehler Cup. |
We have received a number of inquires regarding the confirmation of tournament entries. The policy is all entries are accepted unless a member is notified by the Tournament Chairman that their entry has not been accepted or they have been put on the standby list. For tournaments having sequential tee times, the member will receive a postcard or an e-mail message with their starting time a week or so before the tournament. It is the member’s responsibility to notify their playing partner(s). The starting time for shotgun starts will be included with the entry and no further notification will be given.
